Best of the Bunch: Han's spring beauty faves
Beauty blogger and model Han Beckham is the self-proclaimed chaotic minimalist of Instagram. Chaotic minimalism is an ethos that can be described as doing the most with the least — in the loveliest way possible. Last fall, Beckham wrote a post for Cherry breaking down how to finesse an indulgent self-care routine on a food stamp budget. This spring, we asked Beckham to tell us her top five beauty products for the season (a low-key Just Five Things moment, à la Byrdie Beauty). In turn, Beckham welcomed us to her curated mess. “My favorite products change periodically, but these have been pretty standard for awhile,” Beckham explains. “You’ll find me wearing or using these products every day without fail!”
And without further ado, here are Beckham’s current faves in her beauty and skincare collection: the “best of the bunch,” if you will.
1. Youth to the People’s “Superfood Cleanser”
“My skincare routine right now is simple,” Beckham says. “I rotate between this cleanser [Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser ($36)] and Cetaphil, depending on the day, my mood, and my skin. But it’s such a good staple. The ingredients are good and the packaging is pretty, and I’m easily pleased.”
Youth to the People’s cleanser contains extracts of kale, spinach, and green tea — all the healthy things you should be putting in your body anyway. Packed with antioxidants, this cleanser is 100 percent vegan.
2. Virtue Labs’ Moisture Whip
Beckham says she has no idea how she lived without Moisture Whip by Virtue Labs ($36). The mousse is infused with both oil and Virtue’s patented Alpha Keratin to draw out and define the texture of curls and waves — adding a bit of shine for an extra touch.
“I wish I could tell my seventh grade self that one day, I’d use mousse again — and I would love it. My hair has never been so soft and healthy,” Beckham explains. Love that for you!
3. Gourmand 019 Miel Bebe EDP
“I know Urban Outfitters is a really controversial place,” Beckham acknowledges. “I hate that, I do. I just wish I hadn’t found this product before I found that out.” Exclusive to UO, Gourmand is a beauty vertical that also offers hand cream, hair and body mist, gel masks, serums, and lip balm. The Gourmand Eau De Parfum fragrances ($18) truly give the girls variety — and a lush one, too.
Scents like Citron Glacé are described as a combination of “sparkling lemon,” “velvet jasmine,” and “crystallized sugar.” Fleur Monoi is a marriage of blood orange, tiare flower, and driftwood. Meanwhile, mandarin, papaya, violet, and sandalwood comprise Papaye Tropique. And Macaron Rose is a fairytale combination of eau de rose, “Turkish delight,” and sugar cane. The range!
Beckham’s favorite scent, Miel Bébé, boasts “juicy mandarin,” honey blossom, sandalwood, and praline.” Or, as Beckham says, “It’s ‘Georgia’ by Vance Joy in a bottle. Or, me as a perfume.”
4. Colourpop Cosmetics Brow Gel
When asked to explain the love for Colourpop’s Brow Gel ($6.50), Beckham simply said, “Glossier Boy Brow has left the chat.” Beckham wears it in Clear, but the gel also comes in Blonde, Light Brown, Dark Brown, and Soft Black. It’s also important to note that this product is vegan and cruelty-free.
5. Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen
Along with being a “chaotic minimal” beauty icon, Beckham is an advocate for clean beauty and sun care. “Sunscreen is so damn important for everyone — and so are clean ingredients,” Beckham says. “Supergoop! sunscreen checks all of those boxes and protects against the blue light from your electronics, too.”
Supergoop! and Beckham are a match made in sun-washed heaven. With the slogan of “Every. Single. Day.,” the brand is here to “change the way you think about sunscreen.” Apart from thoughtful, sunny packaging and a products packed with a healthy dose of antioxidants, they’re big on redefining the texture of sunscreen by making it less clumpy and slick. They’re also big on sun and skincare education. Infused with rosemary and sunflower extract, Supergoop’s Everyday Sunscreen SPF 50 ($10 for 1 fl. oz., $19 for 2.4 fl. oz., $32 for 7.5 fl. oz., and $48 for 18 fl. oz.) is Beckham’s moisturizing go-to. “Try now and thank me later.”
Whether you’re looking to fend off pesky UV rays, scrub away dirt in plant-based style, get your brows / hair on-point for the inevitable warm-weather beach flex, or lay the groundwork for a breezy spring fling with whiffs of fresh fruit and burning sugar, Hannah Beckham’s got you covered. 🍒
